Designing for Engraving

Engraving can be used to create something special and unique. Engraving sets a higher standard for clients. Because engraving inks are opaque, you can specify PMS coated colors. Ink opacity also allows printing of light (or even white) ink on dark sheets.

You should engrave your design if it includes:

Fine detailed line art

Text with fine serifs

Light colors on dark stock

Image area smaller than 4.25" x 8.75"

Quality uncoated stock

Single sided image

You should not engrave your design if it includes:

Photographs

Continuous tone images

Solid areas on dark stock larger than .25"

Image area larger than 4.25" x 8.75"

Coated or varnished paper stock
